The Awam Foundation is a separate non-profit charitable organization established to provide support to an orphanage and elder center. It was initiated by our Spiritual Director, HH Khenchen Lama Rinpoche, in 1999. We help support this foundation.

 

Some of the main accomplishments have been to develop a yak farm with the goal of making the children and elders self-sufficient in the future. A nearby building was purchased to establish a medical clinic for the orphanage, as well as the community and others living in the area. Another building was purchased for housing and a school for the children through high school, as well as prepare more talented students for college. A program was established to train students to paint thanka paintings. In addition food and clothing have been provided to assist with the basic needs of the children and elders.
